Activist Luçiana Kokaj has commented on the anti-government protest, which marks its 41st day, as well as police violence against protesters.
Kokaj focused on the case of protester Arbër Lleshi, who he said was raped after being arrested in a police car.
"When Arbër Lleshi was arrested, a knee was placed on his neck. He had no weapon. What is this? When he was arrested he was fine, while after an hour or two his eye was black. I saw him at Police Station No. 3," she said.
Kokaj stressed that evidence is being collected to pursue legal action against officers suspected of having used violence against citizens, while adding that "a blow with an egg cannot in any way be compared to a rubber baton. The protesters only had eggs, while they neutralized them and hit them with a rubber baton. It is not normal."
Asked about Prime Minister Edi Rama's statements, who described the protesters as "ravens and crows", Kokaj said that if he describes them that way, he should remember that he is their prime minister.
"Whose prime minister is that? If we are ravens, we are trash, we are everything, whose prime minister is that? They are the best in Albania. We are blessed to have this youth who has come out there and killed fear, and is not threatened by these 40 days that he has been out there," she said on News24.
Finally, Kokaj also focused on the success of the protest, which marks its 41st day today, emphasizing that the resistance of citizens is the success, but the victory of the protest is the resignation of the Prime Minister.
Luçjana Kokaj: When Arbër Lleshi was arrested, a knee was placed on his neck. He had no weapon. What is this? When he was arrested he was fine, while after an hour or two he had a black eye. I saw him at Police Station No. 3. Did he hit himself? He was hit in the police car. The police have no reason to hit citizens. You are not a man or a brave person to hit someone whose hands are tied. What has been done is shameful.
We are trying, with photos and videos, to identify the police officers who have violated and beaten the protesters, and I believe that legal measures will be taken very soon. Some have filed complaints with the AMP and we hope that the AMP will do its job. A blow with an egg cannot be compared to a rubber baton. The protesters only had eggs, while they neutralized and beat them with a rubber baton. It is not normal.
Rama described the protesters as crows and ravens. How do you feel about this?
Luçjana Kokaj: But whose prime minister is that? If we are ravens, we are trash, we are everything, whose prime minister is that? We have not gone to fortune tellers. His deputies have turned out to have gone to fortune tellers to secure votes. The protesters have not. They are the best in Albania. We are blessed to have this youth who have come out there and killed fear, and are not threatened by these 40 days that they have been out there. The prime minister does not deal with the demands we have there. He creates division and despises you. They are the Albanians, he is their prime minister.
The success of the protest today, on the 41st day?
Luçjana Kokaj: I believe that the resistance, the spirit and the energy that continues to be there, the people who do not give up without winning the protest, show that the victory of the protest is the resignation of the prime minister.
