“My father is not a millionaire. I am not the son of a politician. My father is not a politician either. And we don't care who participates in this race. Do you know why? Look at this hall and these people, they should be worried about us. Trust me!”
With these words full of conviction, Robert Lulgjuraj, a son of the Greater Highlands with deep Albanian roots, now intends to write a new page in the political history of the United States of America.
Robert Lulgjuraj, Albanian-American prosecutor and member of the Republican Party, has officially announced his candidacy for the US Congress, with the aim of representing Michigan's 10th District in the 2026 elections. With this bold step, he not only aspires to an important political task, but also to the worthy representation of the Albanian-American community at the heart of global democracy.
The Lulgjuraj family originated from the Albanian regions of Montenegro. His grandparents and parents immigrated to America in the 1960s, seeking freedom and escaping the pressures of communism and religious persecution. They settled in Detroit, where they began a new life, filled with sacrifice, honest work and dedication to family values, a story familiar to many Albanian families of that time.
Robert's mother worked as a waitress, a profession she still practices today with humility and dignity, while his grandmother was a dishwasher, two women who built the foundations of an honest family in the American promised land.
From that difficult experience, Robert Lulgjuraj inherited the virtue of work, respect for sacrifice, and pride in his Albanian heritage. He grew up in the city of Sterling Heights, where even today he is known as a strong voice who has never stopped speaking proudly about his origins and the values that have shaped him as a person.
He began his education at the Grissom Public School in Sterling Heights, then continued at the prestigious Catholic school for boys, Brothers Rice, where he stood out for his discipline, dedication, and leadership spirit.
In 2015, he graduated with a degree in Business Studies and Humanities, and five years later, in 2020, he completed his Juris Doctorate at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.
During his years of study, Robert Lulgjuraj showed a passion for politics. He served as chairman of the Republican Party youth wing in Macomb County, demonstrating leadership and vision for the future.
After completing his studies, Lulgjuraj began his career as a lawyer in Detroit, where he handled serious criminal cases, from thefts and attempted murders to drug trafficking cases.
Later, as a prosecutor in Wayne County and Macomb County, he prosecuted over 2,000 criminal cases, including organized crime and serious violence cases.
“I always value character and virtues when interacting with people. I reflect on family and personal values and try to be honest. I believe that Albanians will stop and reflect on who they really are, what they deeply believe, and what their family roots are. This is because Albanians have a strong belief in God, work, and family. My family history has been difficult and inspiring. My grandfather was persecuted. Today, I am running for the US Congress, and I am deeply grateful.”
For those who know him closely, Robert Lulgjuraj is a prepared professional, with high integrity, clear vision and a deep sense of responsibility towards the community and the law. He sees justice not as an instrument of power, but as a shield for the citizen, a philosophy that has guided him at every step of his career.
At the foundation of his political philosophy lie four pillars: faith, family, freedom, and public order.
It is these values that form the axis of his campaign for the United States Congress, a campaign that aims to inspire not only the Albanians of Michigan, but every citizen who believes in the possibility of change.
For the Albanian-American community, Robert Lulgjuraj's candidacy represents a historic moment and a source of pride.
He is seen as the representative of a new generation of Albanians in America, who do not forget their roots, but use them as a force to build a more just and inclusive future.
“People care about having safe streets, safe communities, they want to raise their children without being shot and without being threatened by drug users. They want peace and security. I care about the law and supporting the police and the victims. It's what I've done my whole life.”
If he wins, Robert Lulgjuraj will become the first Albanian-American to enter the US Congress since the late 1980s.
An achievement that will mark not only the personal success of a young man of Albanian origin, but also a cornerstone in the history of Albanian representation in American politics.
