The collapse of a section of the Librazhd-Pogradec road has created numerous problems for businesses and trade in the southeast of the country, affecting the movement of tourists, the supply of goods and the circulation of heavy transport. The situation is considered worrying for the local economy in Korça, Pogradec and the surrounding areas.
The administrator of a guesthouse in Voskopoja, Anton Falo, stated that his activity was significantly affected during the past weekend. According to him, about 70-80% of reservations were canceled due to the road blockage, resulting in significant losses for the hotel.
He stressed that the damages are even greater in the restaurant sector, while warning that if Voskopoja businesses do not work during the weekends, they risk bankruptcy. Falo called on state institutions to intervene as soon as possible to resolve the situation.
"It hurt us tremendously this weekend, as we work with a clientele mainly from Tirana, Durrës, Fier, Vlora, Kavaja and Elbasan. A little from Korça. And we had a very big damage. We had a lot of cancellations, both in the hotel and in the restaurant on Sunday. In the hotel, 70-80% of our rooms were canceled. Out of the 10 rooms that I have, only three came to me. Seven left, but could not reach their destination. They returned from Librazhd.
The three of them were a little braver and they left Moglica. And when we arrived, they also said that they regretted leaving Moglica, because the roads are narrow in mountainous terrain. While in the restaurant, the losses were even greater. We hope that this defect will be fixed as soon as possible. There has been damage repeatedly, but this time the damage was greater. We usually work in Voskopoja only on weekends, Saturday and Sunday. If we don't manage to work on weekends, we're done ," he said for "Report TV".
The impact also extends to the trade of goods. For three days, dozens of truckers have been stranded in Qukës, after the closure of the road in Librazhd, making it impossible to continue on the road to Tirana and distribute goods to their respective destinations.
According to truckers, the alternative suggested by the Albanian Road Authority (ARRSH) is not viable, as the goods have been cleared and cannot pass through the territory of North Macedonia due to the lack of an agreement between the two governments in such cases. This situation is creating delays in supplies and direct consequences for trade in the region.
Authorities have not yet announced a precise deadline for the restoration of normal traffic, while businesses and transport representatives are seeking urgent solutions to avoid further deterioration of the economic situation.
