The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, will participate in the Berlin Process summit held in Tirana on October 16.
The head of government will use this opportunity to address the September 24 armed attack in Banjska, Kosovo, and accuse Serbia of being behind it.
" The summit, in terms of what will be achieved, does not have security issues, but it will be a topic of discussion at this summit, or better to say, in the matter of the address that the leaders of the region will make. Of course, a greater focus is needed, but we believe that this comes alongside a change in approach towards Serbia. Of course, the increased presence of KFOR on the borders with Serbia is welcome, since the aggression against Kosovo is coming from there and the terrorist attack against Kosovo was prepared from there. While the Kosovo Police is professionally performing all tasks for the implementation of the law, it should be supported and strengthened ", said Jeton Zylfaj, adviser to the Prime Minister of Kosovo.
At this summit, it is expected that the agreement for the mutual recognition of four professions, including surgeons, midwives and veterinarians, will be signed between the countries of the Western Balkans. Joint declarations for the facilitation of trade and transport, for the protection of the environment and partnership for the climate are also intended. But there is no lack of skepticism about concrete results.
" The terrorist attack in the north has also violated the Berlin Process at this stage, as many parties are involved. We have Albania, which is and has been indirectly involved in discussions on the attack in the north with some demands for Serbia. We also have Serbia with a barricading position and Kosovo, which is the most damaged party from the last event. However, I think that the Berlin Process should have more dynamics in the coming months, as long as the situation between Kosovo and Serbia is defined even more clearly, we can have an increase in dynamics in terms of the implementation of agreements and the aim for a common regional market. But I do not expect that a full agreement will be reached at this summit so that this regional market becomes functional. After we have entered an inflexible situation with many question marks", said Arbër Fetahu, group for legal and political studies.
The Summit of the Berlin Process is held for the first time outside the borders of the European Union. On October 16 in Tirana, the leaders of the countries of the Western Balkans and the main leaders of the EU will be present, such as the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the French President, Emmanuel Macron and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
