The elected MP of the Democratic Party, Greta Bardeli, has spoken about the situation created in Theth. She has described it as a "war zone" due to the harsh interventions of the State Police and the IKMT.
Bardeli said that in addition to the destruction of homes and hostels, the local community is facing unprecedented reprisals. She stressed that an open dialogue between institutions and the community is needed to find urgent solutions.
Bardeli also said that this situation is harming tourism, as all reservations have been canceled.
"Thethi is like a war zone. Here, the State Police, IKMT, is retaliating, demolishing everything, every house, every guesthouse. It is dealing with the community of this area. I was here and was present at a meeting of residents together with the 'brother' of the area, who discussed and are only for dialogue and demand that the central institutions and the community of Thethi be present together at a common table and communicate.
These people want urgent solutions. They want to communicate with state institutions and stop all this retaliation that is happening here in Theth. It is a sad situation, apart from the residents who are upset about what is happening to them, but also the few tourists who are now left in this area, are witnesses to this retaliation that is happening today in Theth.
It is hurting tourism a lot. Since the first day it started, more and more tourists are leaving every day and there have been all those cancellations. I have contacted various guesthouses and they have said that many tourists have canceled their reservations. This area is now being deserted, it is being overrun by tourists. A little while ago a gentleman told me: "Sadness has entered the mountain birds here, not the tourists and the residents of the area, and this is very right," Greta Bardeli told "Syri Tv".
