Prisons in the country have been put on alert following the TNT explosion yesterday evening in the Fushë-Krujë prison.
It is learned that the explosive was homemade, made with nitrate, and there are suspicions that it was thrown from outside the prison perimeter in the area where the generator was located.
The leads the police are investigating are an attempted escape or the creation of a riot in the Fushë-Krujë prison. Also, another lead the police are investigating is a threatening message to the prison director.
According to the Directorate of Prisons, the incident occurred at around 9:00 PM and a hole in the ground caused by explosives was found near the area where the generator is located. The announcement states that this area does not affect or endanger the safety or life within the internal perimeter of the convicts and detainees.
The investigative team has seized security footage, and is also collecting footage from security cameras on surrounding streets, to help identify the perpetrators.
"At around 9:00 PM yesterday evening, an explosion was heard inside the perimeter of the Fushë-Krujë Prison. Immediately after the event, the relevant structures were notified: the State Police, the Internal Prison Control Service and the Prosecutor's Office.
Preliminary verifications at the scene have revealed a hole in the ground near the area where the generator is located, raising suspicions that the explosion may have been caused by a suspected amount of explosive material. No one was injured and no material damage was caused by the explosion.
Investigative teams are still on the ground and are working to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident, as well as to identify the possible perpetrators.
From the information so far, it appears that the explosive material was thrown in the outer perimeter area, near the main road. This area does not affect or endanger the safety or lives of the convicts and detainees within the inner perimeter.
Security footage has been administered and taken as evidence by the investigation team. Footage from security cameras on surrounding streets is also being collected to help identify the perpetrators.
"The General Directorate of Prisons guarantees security within the regime inhabited by detainees and convicts ," the General Directorate of Prisons said in a statement.
