Starting from the case of Dritan Gjika, the Albanian mafia boss who was recently arrested, tonight in "Opinion" it was discussed exactly how Albanians "penetrated" the drug market in Ecuador. Journalist Artan Hoxha spoke about this phenomenon from its "origins" to the "Albanian drug trafficking lines" that have now taken shape.
" These people have entered with passports from European Union countries, the vast majority of those involved in drug trafficking do not have Albanian passports. The goal is not to influence internal activity in Ecuador, but to find loopholes and exploit them for trade. It is the Mexican and Colombian cartels that are bringing weapons there, that have brought them into conflict, that supply the main groups. They are interested, we are not at that level.
"But we went there of course through the Italian 'Ndrangheta, so we took on operations that others allowed us to do. And then, once we saw how it worked, we created connections, we tried to become autonomous, because that doesn't happen in every case ," Hoxha explained.
According to him, the main problem in this type of trade is where the cargo will be landed and then how the distribution will be done. This is where Albanians come into play!
" There are Albanian lines, from the moment you buy it to the retail distribution routes. We have closed the chain from Asia for heroin to Europe and the other chain from Latin America and that is why we have been exposed. Because we have gone to the country of origin, we have been exposed there and in political situations, we have people killed in Ecuador, Colombia, Peru. In recent years, a local Colombian boss was caught and with him an Albanian. Most of the time, they are either in the role of the person who is there to guarantee the sending of money and the arrival of the goods in Europe, or on the other hand they were like a kind of consultant or right-hand man of the local leader ", he concluded.
