Sentenced to 1 year in prison for false reporting, former Democratic MP Ervin

Former Democratic MP Ervin Salianji has requested release from prison. Salianji has filed a request for conditional release after serving 2/3 of his sentence.

Salianji has been held in solitary confinement in Fier prison since October last year. The former MP was found guilty by a final decision by the Court of Appeals in the "Babale" case, sentencing him to 1 year in prison.

Salianji was sentenced on December 18, 2019 to 1 year in prison in the first instance, while the accused as an accomplice for "false reporting", journalist Jetmir Olldashi, was sentenced to 6 months in prison, but the execution of this measure was suspended and the sentence was converted to 100 hours of community service.

Meanwhile, on September 26, the Court of Appeals decided to uphold the 1-year prison sentence for the criminal offense of false reporting for Democratic Party MP Ervin Salianji, while the latter called the trial rigged and himself a political convict.

“I am the first political convict in these 34 years of pluralism. This is a political sentence, just like agitation and propaganda in the past,” said Salianji. “I have not fought a battle to steal and kill, but I have fought a battle against drug traffickers,” he declared, adding that he is available to serve his sentence in any type of prison.

Since September 26 of this year, Ervin Salianji has been in Fier prison serving his sentence.
