The former Mayor of Durrës, Vangjush Dako, who was arrested yesterday by order of SPAK for abuse of office, owns an asset worth over 1 million euros. Dako has created wealth from business activity in the construction sector, before leading the Municipality of Durres for 3 terms, from 2007 to 2019. Before being elected mayor of Durres in 2007, among other things, Dako declares a building with 11 floors in Durrës, with an area of 3.6 thousand m2, with a declared value of 72 million lek or about 700 thousand euros. There is no information about the financial source of the money for building the palace, while there are doubts that the declared value may be lower than the real value.
Before the start of the task, Dako declares a plot of land of 1,800 m2 in the value of 50 thousand USD, a warehouse of 187 m2 in the value of 550,000 lek, a warehouse of 300 m2 in the value of 500,000 lek, an apartment of 130 m2 in the value of 40 thousand USD, a garage of 100 m2 in the value of 15 thousand USD, Mercedes Benz car 25 thousand euros and BMW car 700 000 ALL. Meanwhile, in 2015, Dako exchanged 1.8 thousand m2 of land for 600 m2 of land, 6 apartments and 11 garages on the beach of Durrës. In 2016, Dako's son bought 35% of the shares of the company 'Arctic Group' sh.pk, with the source of the debt given by his uncle, in the amount of 966,000 ALL.
In 2017, Dako exchanged 539 m2 of land plus a two-story building with 4 apartments on the ground floor, with areas of 76 m2, 66 m2, 76 m2 and 74 m2. In 2017, Vangjush Dako won a 245 m2 apartment with property exchange. This apartment has another apartment of 120 m2, plus a basement and a garage of 32 m2. In 2017, Dako declares another asset, a 4950 m2 plot in Xhafzotaj, plus a 3-story building, where the ground floor is 1653 m2 plus 624 m2. He acquired this property by exchanging a 405 m2 plot of land and a 164 m2 building.
Vangjush Dako graduated in 1991 from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Tirana. After graduation, Dako worked for a short period in the water utility company in the city of Durrës. Afterwards, Dako continued his activity in the business field, as an administrator of the company '3-D', which has been operating in the construction sector for years. In 2001-2002, Vangjush Dako was appointed head of the construction police for Durrës district. At the same time, Dako was also a member of the territorial regulation council, a position from which he resigned.
In 2004-2005, Dako ran the mortgage office, while in 2007 he was elected Mayor of Durrës as a representative of the Socialist Party, being confirmed in 2011 and 2015.
Vangjush Dako has been part of the higher structures of the Socialist Party, including a member of the SP Presidency. Dako is considered a political figure of the Socialist Party with weight in the Durrës District. The Democratic Party has continuously articulated accusations against Dako. But, Dako received the first serious blow in July 2019 from the United States of America, after it was declared non grata by the US Department of State. However, Dako continued to be considered an electoral machine of the SP in Durrës even after being declared non grata, due to his role in the parliamentary elections of 2021 and the local elections of May 14, 2023.
