The Mayor of Fushë-Arrëz has sent a letter to the Prime Minister Edi Rama, the EU ambassador in Albania, Luigi Soreca, the UNHCR representative in Albania, Toshitsuki Kawauchi, the Minister of the Interior, Taulant Balla, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, in which he expresses the desire to host in this city the refugees who are expected to arrive in our country after the agreement with Italy.
In the official letter, provided by "BalkanWeb", the head of Fushë Arrëzi, Hil Curri, who left the coalition "Bashke Fitomje", expresses, among other things, the willingness to "contribute to a humanitarian response to the current situation that includes immigrants who have found refuge in Europe".
" I understand that the Prime Minister of Albania, in cooperation with the Prime Minister of Italy, has agreed to allow immigrants from Italy to stay in camps located in Albania, especially in some selected municipalities. I want to express my willingness and desire to accommodate some of these immigrants in our territory. Fushe-Arrëzi is a community that amazes with a beautiful territory, which enables us to offer suitable housing and support for these individuals.
Our municipality has a long history of welcoming visitors with open arms. I feel a special pride for the warm and welcoming nature of our people, which has been a characteristic of Albanian culture for generations. It is a part of our identity that I hold dear and I would be honored to extend this tradition to immigrants in need. I am ready to work closely with the relevant authorities to ensure the well-being and integration of immigrants placed under our care.
Furthermore, the Fushe-Arrzi community is ready to make a positive contribution to the lives of these individuals by offering them a supportive environment where they can build their lives, find security and access the necessary resources. Our municipality is ready to cooperate with the government, non-profit organizations and international bodies to ensure that these immigrants receive the help they need. I respectfully request the opportunity to engage in a constructive dialogue with the relevant authorities to discuss the details and logistics of housing immigrants in Fushe-Arrez. I am willing to work diligently to meet all necessary requirements and provide a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for these individuals.
