In a solemn ceremony held in Tirana, 22 prominent personalities from various fields were decorated with high state titles, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Order of Skanderbeg. This is one of the oldest and most important decorations of the Albanian state, brought back into the spotlight to appreciate the contribution given over the years to the nation.
The opening speech at this ceremony was given by Prime Minister Edi Rama, who said that the Order of Skanderbeg bears the name of our national hero who definitively determined Albania's European orientation. He emphasized that this 100th anniversary is not only a symbolic event, but an opportunity to appreciate those who have dedicatedly built Albanian history, science, culture, sports and institutions.
The highest title, the “Grand Star of the Supreme Order of the Eagle,” was awarded to former President Alfred Moisiu, while the same title was also awarded to physician Besim Elezi, filmmaker Abaz Hoxha, and linguist Seit Mansaku. The “Grand Officer” title was awarded to researcher Aurel Plasari, historian Pëllumb Xhufi, Arbëresh researchers Francesco Altimari and Matteo Mandala, and Ernesto Madeo for their efforts to preserve Arbëresh culture.
The "Commander" decoration was awarded to archaeologist Shpresa Gjongecaj, while the same award was also given to Etleva Domi, Fioralba Cakoni and Zyber Dushku. The "Academic Oak" award was given to Professor Ismet Elezi at the age of 106, one of the most respected figures in Albanian academia and justice.
The list of those decorated also included well-known names such as Igli Tare, who received the title of "Knight" for his contribution to sports, as well as researcher Edor Kabashi for his work in the field of neurology. Adriana Hysenaj, an electrical technician who has served in the most remote areas of the country, Mimoza Dhëmbi from the public administration, soldier Ajet Jata and teachers Kastriot Aliko, Gjovalin Bica and Liljana Luani were also awarded the same title.
