Fredi Beleri spoke from Rinas airport, from where he arrived to fly to Athens and then to Strasbourg to be sworn in as an MEP.
In a statement to the media, he said that he will appeal the decision of the two-year prison sentence all the way to Strasbourg.
"I am running towards Athens. Tomorrow I will be in Strasbourg. Tomorrow there are important votes and decisions. From now on I believe I will be back to normal.
Sooner or later the sovereign's wish is respected. On August 4, I believe that Himarjotes will give an answer and it will be reflected in the voting results.
I will complain to all the links of Albanian justice, and if I don't find the right, I will go to Strasbourg as well", Beleri said.
The day before, the Directorate of Prisons gave him a five-day leave to travel to Strasbourg to be sworn in as an MEP elected from the ranks of the New Democracy party in Greece. Beleri had been asking for permission to leave the cell for several days, but only this Sunday the commission in the Directorate of Prisons was convinced to approve his request.
Beleri has been in a cell since May last year, when he was arrested for buying votes. Now the former elected mayor of Himarë Municipality lost his mandate after the decision of the CEC and the decision of the Special Court of Appeal that sentenced him to 2 years of imprisonment. From the cell, Beleri managed to get the mandate as an MEP.
