In his analysis of Albania's journey towards the EU, analyst Lorenc Vangjeli said that regardless of who has been in opposition, the Socialist Party once or the Democratic Party today, both parties have treated Albania as a "funeral agency", overshadowing the country's interests for the sake of party agendas.
"Exactly 12 years ago, the socialists then in opposition, for the sake of the mayor of Fier, decided not to vote on the 3 famous laws that were a condition for integration," recalled Vangjeli.
He added that this action was a symbol of extreme polarization, where the political clash turned Fier into more important than Brussels. This behavior, according to him, is not accidental, but a pattern that has been repeated by every opposition.
" The party that is in opposition, like the socialists yesterday and the democrats today, sees Albania as a funeral agency and is ready to do anything, forgetting the direct consequences on Albanian society ," Vangjeli said for the show "Log.", on "News24".
Vangjeli also focused on the historical consequences of this political behavior. He mentioned the failure of the 1994 referendum, the turbulent 1996 elections, and the poisoning of democratic institutions as moments that interrupted Albania's natural path of development.
"At that time, Albania was on the same level as Bulgaria. But the political fracture of that period, accompanied by anarchy that many called 'freedom', transformed the country into a nightmare, the consequences of which we still suffer today," he added.
He emphasized that the coexistence of the two major parties has functioned as a burden on Albanian society, hindering its progress.
"Burning mandates, boycotting local elections, are criminal and idiotic acts, " Vangjeli added.
