VIDEO/ The Greeks release the next smokescreen: Enver Hoxha is Greek, here is
Enver Hoxha /

A peripheral "influencer" invents the Greek origins of Enver Hoxha, in an attempt to defuse debates about Chameria, Himara, and Albanian roots in Greece...

The claim spread online by a media figure of no importance in Greece, that Enver Hoxha was born in Corinth with a Greek name, is not a trivial case. It appears at a time when Albanian investigative reporting on Chameria and the identity of Himara has shocked Greek nationalist circles. The absurd narrative functions as a digital smoke bomb, to relativize history and create confusion about Albanian roots. The ridicule of the local residents themselves refutes the thesis, but its use shows a well-known strategy: when facts cannot be stopped, symbolic manipulation of historical figures is attempted.

Restas Blasis, at least that's how he presents himself on social media, is a name that has no connection to mainstream media in Greece. He presents himself as a social influencer, but the content he delivers seems to hide something more.

Athens, or rather its apparatuses, seem to have been shocked by the consistency of the Albanian media, especially by journalist Marin Mema, for his reporting on Albanian identity, mainly that of the Cham population, as well as by this week's "bombshell" on the genetic truths of Himara.

To respond to a topic that has been popular, with a very large following and that has caused shock in the "northern Epirus" environments, Megali Idhë's apparatus has dropped a smoke bomb.

Blasis has published a video online, showing a house in a village in Corinth and claiming that this is the house where the Albanian dictator, Enver Hoxha, was born, who, according to him, had a real name of Aleksandër Mavromaqis.

The influencer also points to a plaque on a nearby plane tree, as if to suggest that there is a historical reference, but the plaque actually only indicates that the plane tree is a natural monument.

The irony of this smoke bomb is the reactions, which are not few. They are mainly comments from Greeks, even from residents of the area to which the influencer refers.

“True,” says one, “we also have the grave of Donald Trump’s ancestors there.” Another says it’s true that Enver was from Corinth, as his father used to tease his cousins and tell them “you’re Hoxha’s father-in-law.”

The owner of the house, who identifies himself as Iro Papanikolaou, says that Aleksandr, whom the influencer refers to as Enver Hoxha, was the brother of her grandmother, Katerina. While the house was owned by their uncle, Leonidha. "That house is ours now, but we always preserve the joy of childhood," she says.

The mockery continues in the comments, but from time to time there are also reactions that try to defend the influencer's thesis, to which local residents then respond with sarcasm.

However, all this does not seem like a thesis thrown around randomly. On the contrary, it seems as if we are dealing with a digital battle that aims to counter the Albanian conscience about the truth of its roots, mainly about the population forcibly expelled from Greece and about what Athens calls "Vorio Epirus".

At first glance, it seems like an idiotic piece of crap, one of those often produced by Balkan mythomaniacs, of which there is no shortage. But this is not like the usual bio-mythomaniac fantasy, which is usually entertaining due to its pronounced hyperbole.

Stretched to the point of absurdity, this narrative resembles more than a typical utility maneuver, where a stone is thrown into a controlled river and then left to be muddied by hundreds of "wise men," never to be clarified.

It is not at all surprising that other "jewels" about the "Greeks who govern Albania" will appear from this "influencer", or similar ones, in the coming days and weeks.

The metaphor has a clear objective. It aims to counter the historiography that Athens can no longer stop, where facts are emerging daily from the archives and show that modern Greece was founded, led, and built by the Albanians who lived in those regions.

The metaphor with Enver Hoxha seems well thought out, since in the past similar attempts have been made with Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, called Jorgo. But it seems they know well that Albanians do not accept to play with their national hero. And perhaps the responses may not be very "orthodox", as the Latins say./ Pamphlet

                  1. I'm sorry guys but this is not the Athens propaganda apparatus. It's a greek instagram account with 916 followers. And many comments are doubting his claims, saying Hoxha was born in Albania. There is no digital battle, but at least you're keeping yourselves busy.
