The wave of resignations and dismissals in local government in the country's municipalities continues, following the ultimatum of Prime Minister Edi Rama, who has requested staff refreshes.
Today in the Municipality of Belsh, a number of local administrators and directors have resigned, paving the way for a new phase of selecting new leaders based on merit and performance.
Meanwhile, in the Prrenjas Municipality, three administrators have resigned since yesterday, while an in-depth performance evaluation is currently being conducted for the directors who are still in office.
The same situation has been noted in the municipalities of Peqin, Cërrik and Gramsh , where the process of resignations and evaluations is underway. In Librazhd and Elbasan, the wave of mass resignations has been taking place since Monday.
The directors of the Saranda municipality have also resigned, while Konispoli is having difficulty accepting Rama's request to dismiss the administration.
The Mayor of Konispol , Ergest Dule, has refused to dismiss the directors under his command, and there has been a debate with Rama about this.
Dule stated that "the directors are young and capable at work", while the Prime Minister responded by saying "you should resign if you don't fire them".
A day ago, there were numerous resignations and dismissals of mayors in administrative units in Elbasan, Korça, Kukës, Shkodër, Lushnje, etc.
This process is expected to be further extended within the framework of a reform that aims to increase the quality of public services and increase accountability in local governance.
