Norway is not a traditional European football power and is currently participating in a World Cup for only the fourth time in its history, having last appeared in France in 1998, where they reached the round of 16 before being eliminated by Italy.

Haaland is now the tournament's top scorer with seven goals, alongside Mbappe and Messi.

Norway's Princess Ingrid Alexandra hugged Erling Haaland shortly after Brazil were eliminated from the World Cup by Norway, a scene that quickly went viral on social media on Sunday evening. The future queen of Norway and her brother, Prince Svere Magnus, followed the team throughout the tournament, and their presence at MetLife Stadium in New York City coincided with one of the most important results in Norwegian soccer history.
The 22-year-old princess and her 20-year-old brother wore Norwegian scarves over their formal attire as they watched Haaland send Brazil home with two goals. The brother and sister have been regulars at Norway's matches since the group stage, including the victory over Senegal on June 22. Ingrid Alexandra's appearance in that match was actually a last-minute substitute. Her father, Crown Prince Haakon, had originally planned to attend with Sverre Magnus, before pulling out due to a family health issue, and Ingrid accompanied her brother in his place.
Reactions on social media focused largely on the novelty of a meeting between the royal family and one of the world's biggest soccer stars.
Over 100,000 people in the streets
More than 100,000 people celebrated in the streets of Oslo after Norway's epic victory over Brazil. There were long lines from all sides to enter the City Hall Square, which had been prepared at the last minute for World Cup celebrations.
As is tradition, thousands of people had flocked to Oslo's "Spikersuppa" in the hope of watching the match. Some were even 13 hours before kick-off, waiting in line to enter the special area.
"Erling was the one who said it last time, that Norway has changed forever. Now there will be another week of celebrations. Then we have the game on Saturday. That's why I'm worried about people's health," said national team coach Stalje Solbakken.
