The numbers of those infected with flu or seasonal viruses are increasing at a fast rate, thus not excluding the possibility of the country being involved in a flu epidemic at the end of January or beginning of February.
In an interview for "Euronews Albania", the director of ISHP, Eugena Tomini, said that the curve of infections will increase.
"We have a normal traffic situation with an increasing trend in the coming weeks. They are reported as upper and lower infections at the level of 13 thousand cases per week, this estimated with a previous week that we have a fluctuation from 11 thousand to 13 thousand. It is an expected activity for the season ", says Tomini.
The flu is currently ruling the roost. The cases of COVID are less and without complications. The presence of the new JN1 subvariant that is circulating in many countries has not yet been isolated in our country.
"We have a co-circulation of flu and COVID, for more than 10 days we have had a predominance of flu in circulation. Currently, we have influenza type a ah1 ah3 and type b, associating with other viruses and COVID", said the doctor.
Although the flu affects any age, experts say that people over 60 years of age currently predominate. They appeal not to neglect any symptom, as the flu can be deadly.
"Flu is an aggressive respiratory disease, even more so in risk groups that have co-morbidities and above all groups that have not been vaccinated, vaccination is advisable to prevent severe forms and fatalities ," said Tomini.
This season, it has been observed that the flu lasts longer than 5 or 7 days. Doctors refer that in many cases a prolonged cough is observed that goes up to 3 or 4 weeks.
