Journalist Igli Çelmeta revealed details about the serious incident that happened two days ago in Pogradec, where 42-year-old Eglantin Proga was brutally raped by 29-year-old Denis Meçe.
Proga lost his life as a result of the violence, while the Police gave the first official notification regarding the serious event, on Sunday morning, where it was announced the arrest of the suspected author and 3 other people for "not reporting a crime".
Çelmeta said that we have had cases when the police gave official notices for the most banal events, while they did not give official notices regarding such a crime.
"The person suspected of being the perpetrator of the crime is related to a person who has political connections, who has power in Pogradec, and this may be the reason why we did not have an official notification" , said the journalist, raising doubts about what happened in report to the police.
Çelmeta said that what makes the incident even more serious is the fact that the victim was lying on the street for about 30 minutes and was not given first aid.
"In 2024, in a city like Pogradec, not having an ambulance go when there is a person lying on the street, this is unforgivable. "Today, the General Director of the State Police has ordered the launch of an inspection related to the actions of the police, how they acted in the first hours after the incident, what happened, why the incident was not reported ," said Çelmeta.
He added that the preliminary forensic examination proved that the deceased was raped, the video footage shows the violent actions of the 29-year-old Meçe against the 42-year-old.
"The police still haven't given us the reason for the crime, what happened, was the victim threatened by the perpetrator before?"
The arrested author suspected of the crime is known as a problematic character, but because one of his relatives has political power, there are suspicions that there was an attempt to hide the incident.
About 5 hours and 30 minutes after the incident happened, the Police escorted the suspected author, then 3 other people were escorted, where one of them broke down in front of the investigative team and told, Çelmeta told "News 24".
He said that the doubts about the police started after why it takes so long to clarify the incident, when the cameras have recorded what happened.
Referring to a testimony given by the victim's sister, Çelmeta said that she was told that her brother died after falling, which was not true.
