The flames that have appeared for almost a week in Malin e Thata are already seriously endangering the area with high vegetation in the Prespa Natural Park in the municipality of Pustec.
Local firefighting forces assisted by protected area workers, armed forces and volunteers are powerless in the face of the terrain and extent of the fires.
They are using mules to bring water to the fires.
The Natural Park of Prespa is in danger from moment to moment to be engulfed by the fires that have occupied a part of the dry mountain for 6 days. The flames that first appeared in the territory of North Macedonia have progressed in our territory, coming very close to the wooded part in beech wood and risking the inclusion of the natural park, which would be a disaster.
Local leaders talk about the difficulties they are encountering due to the terrain and the inability to cope with the situation with the means and human forces they have.
Even in the area, water for people climbing near the fires is being transported by mules, unable to be transported by other means. If there is no intervention from the air, it will only be a matter of time before the Prespa Natural Park is engulfed in flames.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense informs that in the last 24 hours, 47 fires have been reported, of which it has been possible to extinguish 36 of them, while 11 fires continue to remain active.
In the National Park of Prespa in Mount Dry, the fire continues to be active, says the ministry, due to the difficult terrain.
