Egli Proga murder, two accused released; prosecution violates detention

The two suspected murderers of Egli Proga in Pogradec have been released from their cells and the Korça Court has ordered them to be placed under house arrest. Leonidha Guçe and Denis Meçe left their cells with a decision made 3 days ago, arguing that their pre-trial detention terms have expired.

Proga's murder occurred on August 10, 2024, but the Korça Prosecutor's Office is still continuing the investigation. The cameras from the bar where the incident occurred have been taken outside Albania for examination.

Leonidha Guçe was initially investigated only for failing to report a crime, but 9 months after the murder, the Prosecution discovered that he had also participated in the brutal beating of Proga, along with Denis Meçe.

The prosecution reports that the victim was raped inside the bar by Leonidha Guçe and then beaten when she left the bar by Denis Meçe.

The murder of Egli Proga in the Stropka bar-cafe in Pogradec caused public outrage and distrust in institutions. His family members have protested several times, urging the prosecution to fully investigate the horrific crime, where the father of two was punched until he died on the asphalt.
