The Head of the Supreme Court, Sokol Sadushi, has commented on the murder of magistrate Astrit Kalaja inside the Tirana Court of Appeals hall after issuing a decision on property issues while he was present at the Conference of Presidents of the Supreme Courts of the European Union.
The Head of the Supreme Court stated that their resistance and integrity are the most worthy response to an act of violence in the courtroom.
"Supporting the European judiciary is a powerful reminder that the integrity of the judiciary is a shared value. Our resistance and integrity are the most worthy response to an act of violence in the courtroom, as an attack on the rule of law," said Sadushi, as he thanked all members of the network of Presidents of the Supreme Courts of the EU for the messages of solidarity received during this period.
Also, President Sadushi, in the second Session dedicated to the role of social media in judicial independence, in his discussion mentioned the challenges to guaranteeing the independence and impartiality of the judiciary in the digital age, the impact of disinformation and hate speech on the decision-making process, as well as the necessity for the judiciary to build a credible, calm and courageous digital voice in defense of institutional integrity and increasing public trust in justice.
