Ilaria Sula's murder, Mark Samson's father among suspects; how the

The cause of the murder of Ilaria Sula, a student of Albanian origin, who was stabbed to death by her Filipino ex-boyfriend, Mark Samson, remains a mystery.

The latter admitted to the crime, but did not give a motive, nor did he agree to say who helped him execute Sula with a knife and then disappear her body.

Samson told investigators that he killed Ilaria on the morning of March 26, after seeing some conversations that Ilaria had exchanged with another young man.

According to Italian media , the autopsy performed on the girl's body and the numerous traces of blood found throughout the apartment have raised suspicions among investigators that Samson may have been helped by someone other than his mother, who confessed to helping her son clean up the blood at home.

During the interrogation on April 4, the preliminary investigation judge, Anna Minunni, asked Samson several times, even insisting, whether he had received help from anyone else.

"My mother can't lift heavy things," the Filipino replied, thus avoiding implicating his mother in the crime. Meanwhile, she has been questioned and is among the people suspected of having helped in the disappearance of Ilaria Sula's body.

But suspicions have now also been raised about Mark Samson's father.

The preliminary judge, based on the statements of the 23-year-old Filipino who admitted to the crime, asked him "your mother has a heart problem, you know. Actually, I wasn't thinking about it, honestly. Because I read the statement carefully. But of course there could be another person who was physically able to do it."

"My father wasn't there. My father was in the Vatican, he was at St. Peter's. I was alone in the apartment," he insists.

"It's a job I did for several hours," Samson told the judge, recounting how he put Ilaria's body in two black garbage bags and then inside a suitcase wrapped in other bags.

"So you left the body there, in the suitcase, wrapped in a bag, put it aside, let's say, and then you started cleaning your room for hours? Listen, I wanted to ask you something else. Your father worked in a gym, I think, on Via Sciarelli, nearby? Yes? Who works in that gym now? As a cleaner?"

"A... Father" Samson replies.

"So your dad doesn't work there anymore, at this gym. How long has it been?"

"Since when did he retire, I don't know," Samson said.

"Listen, does your dad still have the keys to this gym?"

"Eh, I don't know," said Samson.

"You don't know. What time does your father leave the house in the morning? More or less, I'm not looking for the exact time."

"Around 5:00," Samson replies, drawing the attention of the investigating judge, who asks him: "Excuse me, where are you going at 5 if you're not working."

"I think... Well, now I remember, he said he showered at the gym."

"Every morning at 5?"

"No, not every morning, when he has to shower."

"Why don't you do it at home? When you shower, you go to the gym at 5 o'clock, so you have the keys? Why do you shower at the gym?"

"Because maybe it's also a way to save money at home," Samson replies.
