"Ukrainian January 21"/ 100 people were killed in the 2014 protests,

Despite being in the middle of a bloody war with Russia, Ukraine has taken seriously the 'tasks' given by the West to crack down on corruption and political figures involved in corrupt cases or who violate the democratic order.

As a result, the Ukrainian authorities filed a lawsuit against the former president for the deadly Maidan protests. The country's State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) has completed an investigation into former senior Ukrainian officials who organized the violent dispersal of the 2014 Maidan protests.

Prosecutors have filed charges against former president Viktor Yanukovych and his security chiefs over the incident, which left more than 100 protesters dead.

The brutal coup had also injured 900 people and marked the climax of Ukraine's pro-democracy struggle, which eventually ousted Yanukovych from power.

The former president and his officials fled Ukraine after the fall of the regime, so they are being tried in absentia with arrest warrants issued.

Investigators say officials illegally ordered the use of force and weapons against peaceful protesters, despite having no legal basis to do so.

Law enforcement forces violently attacked protesters in Kyiv's Independence Square, also known as the Maidan. Demonstrators were shot by snipers and beaten by riot police.

Yanukovych and his security officers face charges including organizing premeditated murder, attempted murder, terrorism and abuse of authority.
