Trump denies troop deployment, while an American professor warns of serious military and political consequences
As the war between the US, Israel and Iran continues with incessant attacks, US President Donald Trump declared that the United States has not deployed troops to Iran.
"If that were true, of course I wouldn't tell you, but I'm not sending troops," Trump said during a press conference at the White House.
However, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, about 65% of Americans believe that President Trump could order a large-scale ground attack on Iran, while only 7% support this idea.
Professor John Mearsheimer, an international relations expert at the University of Chicago, was a guest on Andrew Napolitano's YouTube show, where he analyzed the clashes between the US, Israel, and Iran, as well as developments in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Mearsheimer, a US attempt to land troops in the area could turn into a major stalemate, similar to the historic Battle of Gallipoli. He stressed that such an operation would be difficult to carry out quickly due to geographical and logistical challenges, warning of high military and political costs for the US.
The American professor warned that such a scenario, which he called "a second Gallipoli," could increase instability both in the region and globally.
Mearsheimer also stated that US involvement in the war against Iran is not justified by American national interest.
"This war is being waged for Israel. America had no national interest in fighting Iran," he said.
He added that the Trump administration has been drawn into this fight by Israel and pro-Israeli circles within the US.
Assessing the progress of the war on the ground and the role of the US, he said that "this war is going very badly. Almost no one I know can explain how we are going to win this war."

He stressed that European countries and other allies are keeping their distance from the conflict, as they believe the war is destined to be lost and therefore do not want to get involved.
What was the Battle of Gallipoli?
The Battle of Gallipoli (April 1915–January 1916) was an unsuccessful Allies campaign during World War I, aimed at controlling the Dardanelles and capturing Constantinople. The strong resistance of the Ottoman Empire inflicted heavy losses on the Allied forces (about 130,000 dead), leading to an ignominious retreat.
