NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Sweden's admission to the alliance shows that Vladimir Putin "failed" in his war strategy in Ukraine.
"The Kremlin's invasion not only brought previously non-aligned countries Sweden and Finland under NATO's protective umbrella, but now Ukraine is closer to NATO membership than ever before," Stoltenberg said. The Guardian".
He spoke about Sweden's membership in NATO, during a meeting with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, during the ceremony that sealed the membership by becoming the 32nd member country of the alliance.
"When President Putin launched his invasion two years ago, he wanted less NATO and more control over his neighbors. He wanted to destroy Ukraine as a sovereign state, but failed. NATO is bigger and stronger," Stoltenberg was quoted as saying.
