European Council President Charles Michel said this Friday that Israel's promise to temporarily open border crossings for humanitarian aid in Gaza was "inappropriate" given the risk of starvation for residents.
" Children and babies are dying of hunger. Substantial and urgent efforts are needed to end hunger as a weapon of war in Gaza. Israel's announcement on the temporary reopening of the Erez border point as well as the one on the transfer of humanitarian aid through the port of Ashdod is insufficient , Michel underlined.
The European Commission asked the other side to "quickly and fully implement" Israel's promises. European foreign policy chief Josep Borrell also stressed that Israel's decision to open several corridors for humanitarian aid will not be enough to prevent famine.
“ Following widespread condemnation of the death of 7 WCK workers by the IDF (Israeli army) and mounting international pressure, the government of Israel will open several corridors for humanitarian aid. Not enough to prevent famine in Gaza. The binding resolution 2728 of the United Nations Security Council must be implemented now ," Borrell wrote in his post on the X platform.
