At least two people were killed and 19 others were injured after a Mexican Navy training ship crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, the city's mayor said.
Eric Adams said the Cuauhtémoc lost power before the collision on Saturday evening. U.S. officials said 277 people were on board the ship.
Footage shows the ship hitting the bridge as it passed under its structure.
In a statement to X, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced that two people were killed and 19 others were injured. There were a total of 277 people on board.
"At this time, of the 277 people on board, 19 have sustained injuries, 2 of whom remain in critical condition, and 2 others have sadly passed away from their injuries," Mayor Eric Adams wrote on X.
The New York Police Department's chief of operations said he believed "mechanical problems" and a power outage caused the ship to collide with one of the pylons.
