A dead body near a lake, a house on fire, threatening leaflets and bags of explosives, these were enough for authorities in Munich to temporarily suspend the world's largest beer festival.
The security situation in Munich has become significantly tense today, October 1, forcing authorities to temporarily close the Oktoberfest until 5 p.m. Alarms were raised at around 4:40 a.m. when a house on the northern outskirts of the city was engulfed in flames. Initially, it was thought to be a simple fire, but successive explosions inside the house raised suspicions of a deliberate act, alarming the entire area.
The police intervened immediately, especially because of the presence of hundreds of thousands of visitors in the city for the Oktoberfest festival. At dawn, near the Lerchenauer Lake, a body with gunshot wounds was found, it is suspected that the victim is the author of the fire in his parents' apartment, where bags with explosives and explosives were discovered in a backpack he was carrying. According to initial investigations, he committed suicide after committing the act.

Another person is missing, but authorities do not consider him to be dangerous. According to German media, the incident appears to have started after a family dispute.
The prestigious newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung reports that a threatening letter written by the same person has been found, warning of attacks on the Oktoberfest. This has forced the police to intensify checks throughout the city. Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) confirmed to the City Council that the authorities had received a warning several days ago and that they had verified that the author had the skills to handle explosives.
" The threat is unfortunately concrete. We cannot risk the lives of citizens. Security has absolute priority ," Reiter declared.
After an emergency meeting, it was decided that the party would resume in the afternoon, around 4:00 PM, if security conditions allowed.
Meanwhile, police helicopters are patrolling the area, while special forces and mine clearance teams are on standby. Two burnt-out vehicles, a pickup truck and a van, have been found near the area, but it is not yet clear whether they are related to the incident.
At the same time, on the far-left Indymedia website, the anti-fascist group “Antifa” published a message claiming responsibility for the burning of several luxury cars in the north of the city. However, authorities consider it unlikely that the threat to the Oktoberfest came from this group, although the tracks remain open for further investigation.
The temporary closure of Oktoberfest was accompanied by the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people. Loudspeakers in the “Wiesn” area gave instructions to evacuate attendees and close tents, kiosks and souvenir shops.
Oktoberfest, which is held annually from September 20 to the first Sunday in October, is the world's largest folk festival, attracting over 6 million visitors each year. This year's edition is the 190th in history and is a symbol of Bavarian identity, but also a potential target for attacks aimed at destabilizing and intimidating the masses. /Pamphlet
