The Red Cross has suspended its aid efforts in Gaza City as Israel intensifies its attacks. The International Committee of the Red Cross said staff are being relocated to southern Gaza due to dire humanitarian conditions in the north.
" Civilians are being killed, forcibly displaced and forced to endure horrific conditions ," he said.
However, first responders have been "very limited" in their ability to reach the civilian population.
"Under international humanitarian law, civilians must be protected regardless of whether they stay in or leave Gaza City. Israel, as the occupying power, has an obligation to ensure that their basic needs are met ," he added.
The ICRC supplies hospitals and the few health care centers in Gaza City with medical supplies and baking facilities in 14 displacement camps that provide 45,000 loaves of bread per day.
It also offers water tanks, trucking services, and supported repairs to drinking water and wastewater networks.
