European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, upon her arrival at the informal EU summit, said that the times we are living in are challenging.
"We live in challenging times. The Russian war against Ukraine is still ongoing. We see Russia testing our resolve. Therefore, these are times when it is absolutely important to have a shared sense of urgency and unity to respond to these challenges. And so, this informal European Council in Copenhagen comes at exactly the right time," said Ursula von der Leyen.
Von der Leyen also mentioned the violation of Estonian airspace by Russia, underlining that the latter is trying to put the EU to the test and incite division.
"What I see in general, even in the countries on the front line, we've had drones in Poland, we've had airspace intrusions in Estonia. It's a pattern, and this pattern comes from Russia. And as much as Russia tries to test us, it also tries to foment division and anxiety in our societies. We will not allow that to happen," she added.
