US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will visit Israel this Tuesday in order to revive ceasefire talks in Gaza following the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
His diplomatic offensive will continue tomorrow in Jordan and Qatar as part of a week-long trip to the region. Blinken will focus discussions on how to end the war, plans for Gaza after the fighting ends and how to improve humanitarian aid, a senior State Department official said.
Blinken and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin wrote to Israeli officials last week demanding concrete measures to address the situation in Gaza or face possible restrictions on US military aid.
The secretary of state will also discuss how to secure a diplomatic solution to the conflict with Hezbollah, and the Israelis were awaiting a response to Iran's missile attack on Oct. 1, the State Department official said.
