EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has warned Lebanon not to get involved in a regional conflict as a result of Israel's war with Hamas.
Speaking during his visit to Lebanon, he said it was imperative to avoid a regional escalation in the Middle East and warned Israel that no one would emerge victorious from such a conflict.
Borrell made the comments during a press conference with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati after talks with senior government officials on the situation in and around Gaza, including the impact of the war and the situation on the Israeli-Lebanese border.
" We see an escalation in the exchange of fire between Lebanon and Israel, and war must be avoided. No one wins in the regional conflict and I informed Israel of this and emphasized the necessity of working through diplomacy to end the conflict. We must act to achieve a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and release the hostages.
According to the World Food Program, 100 percent of the population of the Gaza Strip suffers from a food crisis. "Gaza cannot be isolated from the West Bank and is part of the territory occupied by Israel since 1967 ," he emphasized.
