Germany's defense minister has rejected remarks by EU chief Ursula von der Leyen over plans to send European troops to Ukraine, saying she lacked the mandate to discuss the issue.
Von der Leyen said yesterday that Europe is drawing up "quite precise plans" for a multinational troop deployment in Ukraine as part of post-war security guarantees.
"These are things you don't discuss before you sit down at the negotiating table with many parties who have the right to speak on this issue," Boris Pistorius told reporters today.
"I would know better not to comment or confirm such considerations in any way, except for the fact that the European Union has no mandate or competence when it comes to troop deployment."
