The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the internal security service, Shin Bet, have officially confirmed that the latest attack in the Qatari capital was carried out to hit "the highest leadership of Hamas."
In the joint statement, the two institutions emphasized that " we will act decisively to destroy Hamas, which bears responsibility for the October 7 massacre ."
The operation was carried out by the Israeli air force, and according to the military, measures were taken to avoid civilian casualties before its launch, including the use of precision weapons and additional intelligence. However, the attack in Doha has opened a storm of diplomatic reactions, as Qatar was until now considered a neutral country and mediator in the Gaza ceasefire talks.
Israel has given the operation the Hebrew name “Atzeret HaDin,” which translates to “Judgment Day.” This name is not accidental, as it is linked to the Jewish holiday “Shemini Atzeret,” the day Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023. With this, Tel Aviv gives a symbolic dimension to the strike, presenting it as direct revenge for Hamas’s act.
Israeli media reports that US President Donald Trump has given Israel his approval for the attack on Hamas leadership in Qatar. Channel 12 cites an Israeli official in its report that Trump "gave the green light."
This development is expected to further exacerbate regional tensions and call into question Qatar's role as a mediator. Meanwhile, a strong reaction from Arab countries and international actors is expected over the violation of Doha's sovereignty.
