While Ukrainian army troops are fighting daily in Russian minefields in the east of the country, a group of elite snipers is targeting high-profile Russian servicemen.
The group of snipers, called "Devils and Angels", according to a recent report from "The Wall Street Journal", have the objective of eliminating Russian commanders in order to sow chaos in the ranks of the enemy.
"If the leader of the group of soldiers is eliminated, then the unit will be disorganized," said former Major General Robert Scales.
The snipers, who have been training in a region near Bakhmut, told the Wall Street Journal that they are perfecting their camouflage with the terrain to be invisible to the enemy.
"We work silently, we are invisible," said one of the snipers.
In a previous interview for CNN, they stated that their mission is to terrorize and demoralize the Russian troops as much as possible. Mark Cancian, a senior adviser at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, told "The Wall Street Journal" that "snipers are becoming very important now that the military sides are positioning themselves in their trenches and have been fighting for months."
They say they are also greatly aided by technology, which allows them to see at night, identify and hit their targets.
In June, a Ukrainian sniper shot Vladimir Andonov, part of the Wagner group at the time, who was known as "The Executioner", one of President Vladimir Putin's most notorious mercenaries.
