Following Donald Trump's statements in the US Congress, who reiterated his interest in taking control of Greenland, the first reactions have begun from the island, which is an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark.
Greenland's prime minister has hit back at Trump, saying: "We don't want to be Americans."
"Greenland is ours. We do not want to be American, nor Danish, we are Greenlanders. The Americans and their leaders must understand this. We are not for sale and we cannot simply take it. Our future is decided by us in Greenland," said the Greenlandic prime minister.
Donald Trump assured that the US will acquire Greenland "one way or another" saying he is working with "all" "interested parties" to achieve it.
"We really need it for international security, and I think we're going to get it. One way or another, we're going to get it. We're going to make you safe, we're going to make you rich, and together, we're going to take Greenland to heights you never imagined," Trump said during his speech to Congress.
