"I want beautiful blood"/ Trump: I take high doses of aspirin

US President Donald Trump has stated in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that he takes a higher dose of aspirin every day than what is usually recommended by doctors.

" They say aspirin is good for thinning the blood, and I don't want 'thick' blood going through my heart. I want nice, thin blood going into the heart. That makes sense, doesn't it ?" Trump said in the interview released Thursday.

Trump, 79, is the second-oldest president in US history, after his Democratic predecessor Joe Biden, who withdrew from the 2024 re-election race amid questions about his health.

The US president's health has been in the spotlight in recent months, following the observation of several bruises on his hands, reports of an imaging examination in October, and episodes where he was seen with his eyes closed during public appearances.

According to the Mayo Clinic, daily aspirin use can reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke in people over 60, while the usual low dose is 81 milligrams.

The president's personal physician, Sean Barbabella, told the Wall Street Journal that Trump takes 325 milligrams of aspirin a day for preventive cardiological reasons. According to him, the examination performed did not show any abnormalities and the president's health is in good condition.
