Israeli government spokesman David Mencer called Donald Trump "the most knowledgeable president and the greatest friend of Israel," despite his criticism of the Israeli airstrike that hit a hospital in southern Gaza, leaving 20 dead, including 5 journalists.
Trump said yesterday that he was "disappointed" by the attack and added: " I don't want to see this anymore. We have to end this nightmare ."
Spokesperson Mencer did not comment further on Trump's statements, but confirmed that the former president and Prime Minister Netanyahu are "in very frequent contact."
Regarding the ceasefire negotiations and the release of hostages, Mencer stated that Israel only aims for a “complete agreement,” which would bring about the return of all hostages home. He stressed that no hostage should be held for longer than “not even a day.”
Mencer confirmed that there are Egyptian teams ready to mediate, but reiterated that any agreement must meet Israeli war objectives.
Meanwhile, protests have been held across Israel by families of the hostages, demanding an immediate agreement and an end to the war. Menzer called on international media to pressure Hamas to release the hostages.
" If they were to hand over their weapons, the war would end immediately ," he declared, closing the press conference.
