US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on June 16 that his upcoming visit to China aims to open up better communication, resolving "misunderstandings" and avoiding "misjudgments", AFP reported.
" Intense competition requires sustained diplomacy to ensure that competition does not turn into confrontation or conflict. This is what the world expects from the United States and China ," said Blinken at a press conference in Washington.
Blinken will be in Beijing on June 18 and 19. This is the first visit of a senior American official to this country in almost five years. The visit was planned for February, but was postponed after the United States said it had detected and then shot down a Chinese spy balloon.
The first goal of the China trip, Blinken said, is to establish open and robust communications so that our two countries can manage our relationship responsibly.
As he pointed out, the purpose of the visit is to present facts about US interests and values, as well as to explore areas of possible cooperation between the two countries, including global economic stability, the fight against drug trafficking, and climate and health issues.
