
A powerful explosion occurred this Friday morning at a gas station in Rome, Italy.
According to Italian media reports, the explosion was followed by a large fire, while numerous Fire Department forces, police forces and civil defense volunteers rushed to the scene.
The same sources say at least 21 people have been injured, including 8 police officers and a firefighter, while the nearby Teano metro station has been closed, writes Corriere della Sera .
Buildings have also suffered damage.
Residents immediately fled their homes after the explosion, while eyewitnesses reported a strong smell of gas before the first explosion. Then, a second – stronger – explosion followed.
"I woke up suddenly, I heard a very loud explosion, it sounded like a bomb," said a witness who lives in the Prenestino area.
"All the windows were shaking, I thought there was an earthquake," said another witness who lives in Centocelle.
