Missing for 5 days, US leads investigation into Titan submarine explosion; the

The US Coast Guard will lead the investigation into the Titan submarine explosion that killed five people.

Foreign media reports that the US National Transportation Safety Board will assist in the investigation, while Canadian investigators are examining Titan's Canadian-flagged support vessel, the Polar Prince.

Meanwhile, all vessels that have been involved in the search operation for the Titan submarine are now returning to shore.

We recall that the US Coast Guard, two days ago, confirmed that the remains found at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean belong to the "Titan" submarine, which has been declared missing since Sunday.

In an emergency press conference, Admiral John Mauger of the US Coast Guard, who is leading the search for the Titan, said that the five crew members are now officially dead, as he offered his condolences to their families. Admiral Mauger said the underwater robots that found the wreckage of the submarine will remain at the scene to gather information. He added that work is still being done to determine the exact time and cause of the disaster.

As for the previous phase of the search, where some noises and bangs were heard in the underwater search area, the Admiral clarified that they may have been related to the debris that was found on the seabed. The US Coast Guard said the submarine was involved in an explosion, after sonar buoys detected the "catastrophic event" in the 72 hours it was in the water.

Experts say the wreckage of the Titan submarine was found more than 200 meters from the bow of the Titanic. All told, 5 parts of the submarine have been found, while the bodies of the crew are unknown, and the Admiral added that they may never be found.

While earlier, the company of the lost submarine, "Oceangate", issued a statement to the media announcing that the passengers of the "Titan" submarine were officially declared dead.

In its statement, the company expresses its condolences to the families of the 5 members who were on board. She asked the media to respect the families' privacy and thanked rescue groups for their tireless work.

"We now believe that our CEO Stockton Rush, Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, Hamish Harding and Paul-Henri Nargeolet have sadly passed away. These men were true explorers who shared a special spirit of adventure and a deep passion for exploring and protecting the world's oceans. Our hearts go out to these five souls and each member of their families during this tragic time. We mourn the loss of life and the joy they brought to all they knew.

This is an extremely sad time for our dedicated employees, who are exhausted and deeply saddened by this loss. The entire OceanGate family is deeply grateful to the countless men and women from numerous organizations in the international community who mobilized vast resources and worked so hard on this mission.

We appreciate their commitment to finding these five explorers and their days and nights of hard work in support of our crew and their families. This is a very sad time for the entire explorer community and for each of the family members of those lost at sea. We respectfully request that the privacy of these families be respected in this most painful time," the statement said.

On board the submarine was the French explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet, a former naval officer Stockton Rush, founder and chief executive of the company 'OceanGate Expeditions', British billionaire Hamish Harding as well as a businessman of Pakistani origin Shahzada Dawood and his son 19- year old Suleman Dawood. The trip to see the remains of the Titanic cost 250 thousand dollars per person.
