Russian opposition businessman in exile Mikhail Khodorkovsky reacted a day after Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhi rebelled against the Russian army.
Khodorkovsky, through a post on Telegram, expressed that it is time to support Yevgeny Prigozhin, who declared to fight the regime of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Yes, even the devil must help if he decides to oppose this regime! (…) If this gangster wants to attack Putin, this is not the time to drown, we must help", wrote the Russian businessman.
The head of the Russian mercenary group, Wagner, is being investigated for sedition after he accused the Russian military of a deadly missile attack on his troops.
Yevgeny Prigozhin said the "evil" in the military leadership must be stopped and vowed to "march for justice".
The authorities denied the attack and asked Prigozhin to stop "illegal actions".
Russian President Vladimir Putin has been informed of the situation and all necessary measures are being taken, said his spokesman, Dmitry Peskov. The event represents a surprising escalation of strife within Russia.
