Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has publicly thanked Donald Trump for his recent decision to lift sanctions on Syria, describing it as a step that could affect regional stability.
In a speech given to members of his AKP party, Erdogan spoke in warm tones towards the former US president, also mentioning him in the context of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
"We hope that we will soon receive good news about Gaza that will bring relief to our hearts, " Erdogan declared, while confirming his virtual participation in a meeting held in Saudi Arabia, where Donald Trump, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa were also present.
The Turkish president also welcomed a sudden decision by the Kurdish militant group PKK to disband itself, but warned that this step should also extend to affiliated organizations in Syria and Europe.
"It is not enough to simply disband the PKK; similar structures must cease their activity in every territory where they operate ," he stressed, hinting at broader diplomatic pressure.
Erdogan is maneuvering between the Gaza crisis, Turkey's geopolitical interests, and relations with major powers, while his statements signal a cautious diplomatic move in a region seething with tension.
