US President Donald Trump said he would lift sanctions on Syria to "give it a historic chance".
This was stated by the American president before his meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sarrah.
According to SkyNews, Trump said he intends to lift sanctions against Syria after talks with Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Trump said the US sanctions against Syria, imposed during the rule of former dictator Bashar al-Assad, were "tough and destructive" but served an "important purpose" at the time.
"But now is their time to shine. It's their time to shine. We're abolishing all of them. Good luck, Siri, show us something very special," Trump said.
Yesterday, Trump hinted that he could "help Syria" because current sanctions against the country "do not allow it to start working."

During the same speech, Trump made it clear that he wants a deal with Iran, but warned of "maximum pressure" if the olive branch he has offered is rejected.
Iran "has pulled an entire region down with it," said Donald Trump, as he now targets Tehran.
He added that while Saudi Arabia is "building some of the largest and most incredible infrastructure projects in the world," Iran's "decades of neglect and mismanagement have left the country plagued by power outages."
"While your ability has transformed dry deserts into fertile farmlands, Iran's leaders have managed to transform green farmlands into dry deserts," he said, addressing an audience in Riyadh.
