The fall of the Assad regime in Syria has increased the risk of ISIS attacks in Europe.
Following a warning from Britain's former spy chief, the worst is yet to come. DAESH-Khorasan Province (DAESH-K), the extension of DAESH in the Syrian deserts, has published a threat list targeting major cultural events in Europe.
The Khorasan Group of the terrorist organization ISIS has announced that it will attack prestigious international events in Europe, such as Oktoberfest, the Cannes Film Festival, the Venice Carnival and the Vienna Opera.
According to Bild, the threat was published a few days ago on the DAESH propaganda platform "Al-Azaim Media".
According to the German newspaper Bild, security forces were alerted after the threat. Speaking to the newspaper, a German prosecutor said that "the threat is becoming serious. We cannot underestimate this situation," while another government official said: "We do not want to create panic, but the risk of a terrorist attack remains."
DAESH-K has announced that it will target major events taking place in Europe in 2025. The list of threats published by the organization includes Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, the famous carnival festival in Venice, the Cannes Film Festival in France, the St. Patrick's Day celebrations and the Vienna Opera House.
Following the threat, authorities announced they would increase security at these events. Organizing committees also announced they would take additional measures to ensure the safety of guests. As preparations against threats continue across Europe, the public has been urged to be vigilant.
