Against the backdrop of intensifying Russian attacks, a two-day conference on Ukraine Recovery (URC2025) was held in Rome today, an annual event to reaffirm solidarity with Kiev, donor commitment and European support at a time when the risk of American withdrawal seems high.
France and the United Kingdom are ready to "coordinate" their nuclear defenses and protect Europe from any "extreme threat."
French President Emmanuel Macron said he would sign a joint statement with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as Russia continues to hit Kiev.
Participants in the conference on Ukraine's economic recovery have already pledged more than 10 billion euros to help the war-torn country, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said today.
"I believe we should feel proud of the result we achieved together today, states, international organizations, financial institutions, local authorities, the business sector and civil society," said Meloni in her opening remarks at the conference.
Meloni stated that "together, at today's conference, we have made commitments that total over 10 billion euros."
"Ukraine Recovery Conference 2025" is one of the most important international forums of this year, in support of Ukraine and its reconstruction after the devastating consequences of the war.
Participants include world leaders, senior representatives of the EU, the G7, international organizations, financial institutions, and the private sector, to coordinate concrete assistance and strategic investments in key sectors of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called on President Donald Trump to stand with the Europeans, because they have the same goal.
"I have two messages. The first is very direct and simple for Putin: we will not stop fighting. The second message is addressed to Washington and goes to President Trump: stand with us Europeans, we have the same goal, a stable political and economic order. Dear Americans, stand with us because we want to create a new history for a common future," said German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in his speech at the conference on the recovery of Ukraine in Rome, reports La Repubblica.
On the other hand, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that Ukraine needs a "Marshall-style" effort to lead its reconstruction, in light of Russia's escalating attack on Ukraine.
During the Ukraine Recovery Conference, Zelensky told leaders that daily Russian attacks constitute "terrorism."
Starting by thanking hosts and partners for supporting Ukraine, Zelensky further emphasized that Ukrainians now face attacks from hundreds of drones every night, calling it "pure terrorism."
"This is exactly what Putin wants, for our people to suffer, to leave Ukraine, and for homes, schools, life itself to be destroyed everywhere, not just near the front lines," he said.
