The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, has announced that he will undergo an operation.

The operation will take place after a meeting of his war cabinet this evening, his office announced.

It is learned that the operation will be done for a hernia and it was discovered during a routine check-up yesterday.

Justice Minister Yariv Levin, who is also deputy prime minister, will temporarily replace Netanyahu during the proceedings.

"Last night, during a routine examination, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was found to have a hernia. In consultation with his doctors, it was decided that after work today (Sunday, March 31, 2024), Prime Minister Netanyahu will be admitted to the hospital for hernia surgery," said today's statement.

Netanyahu previously underwent hernia surgery in 2013 and had a pacemaker implanted last year.
