Mirlind Daku

With the 2-0 victory over Poland, the Albanians took a big step towards European qualification. Although Jasir Asani had opened the way to a great victory for the Albanians with an extraordinary goal - perhaps one of the most beautiful so far in the qualifiers of the European Championship - after the match, everyone talked only about the second goal.

Mirlind Daku turned the 'Air Albania' stadium in Tirana into a frenzy, after scoring in the 62nd minute. The striker ran past the frenzied fans, took off his shirt as he ran and gave the TV cameras a glimpse of his upper body. A detail on the right shoulder would become a hot topic in the increasingly hot Balkans.

A tribute to the slain commander

It is a tattoo showing a soldier's foot on a broken stone block. Next to the soldier's boot is written 'Katana 138'. According to Kosovar media, the stone block symbolizes the border between Kosovo and Albania or the unwanted separation of the Albanian ethnic groups living there.

'Katana' is the nickname of the commander Agim Ramadani, who died in the war between Kosovo and Serbia in 1999, and who led the 138th brigade of the Kosovo Liberation Army.

'Shameful provocation by the Albanians'

Ramadan enjoys the status of a hero in Kosovo, even a street in Pristina is named after him. In Serbia, it is not surprising that the opposite happens. "The Albanian scored a goal in a qualifier and then showed a tattoo of a KLA terrorist on his back," tabloid Telegraf wrote, calling on UEFA to fine Dak.

"Shameful provocation of the Albanians: scored a goal and then showed the tattoo of a KLA terrorist who killed Serbs," wrote the Novosti portal.

Daku: He dedicates the goal to all the victims in Kosovo

Born in Kosovo, Mirlind Daku first played for his country of birth. He only recently decided to play for Albania. The striker of the Russian club, Rubin Kazan, has so far played two matches for the Albanian national team. The important goal of 2-0 was his first goal.

"I dedicate the goal to all the victims in Kosovo, who gave everything for their homeland. Only thanks to them, we can play here today and unite all the Albanian territories," said the 25-year-old after the victory over the Poles. A statement that is unlikely to improve the situation among the Serbs./ Taken from Kurir
