Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said his country is ready to offer support after a helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi crashed on Sunday in a remote mountainous province near the border between the two countries.
Raisi and Aliyev inaugurated a dam project on the border on Sunday, before the crash in Iran's East Azerbaijan province. Part of the northern border of the province is shared with Azerbaijan.
"Today, after greeting the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, we were deeply disturbed by the news of a helicopter carrying the high-level delegation landing in Iran.
"Our prayers to Almighty Allah are with President Ebrahim Raisi and the delegation that accompanies him. As a neighbor, friend and brotherly country, the Republic of Azerbaijan is ready to provide any necessary assistance," Aliyev said in a post on X.
