Deadly drone attack in Donetsk, Kremlin accuses Ukraine of targeting civilians

Seven people were killed and at least 11 others were injured in a drone strike in the Russian-controlled part of the eastern Donetsk region, Russian state news agency Tass reported on Wednesday.

The Kremlin called the attack a "deliberate targeting of civilians" by Ukraine. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called for a full investigation into what he called a "crime" and stressed that "punishment must be inevitable."

"President Vladimir Putin has been informed about the attack ," Peskov said, according to Russian sources.

The head of the Russian-installed administration in Donetsk, Denis Pushilin, confirmed that 11 people were injured as a result of the attack that occurred in the area controlled by Russian forces.

The incident comes amid ongoing tensions on the eastern front lines, with both sides accusing each other of attacks on civilians. Russia often uses such accusations to justify its military operations in Ukraine, while Kiev has yet to officially comment on the latest incident.

The drone attack reportedly took place in or near a residential area in the Moscow-occupied territory of Donetsk. Further details on the exact location and type of drone used have not yet been made public by independent sources.

This case is expected to increase mutual accusations between Moscow and Kiev, as the war in Ukraine continues to have a severe impact on the civilian population on both sides of the front.
